Diego Salgado Fuentes

Senior Fellow, Economics & Development

Biography

Diego Salgado Fuentes came to the Institute in 2022 from the Inter-American Development Bank, where he had spent four years in the research department modelling the labour-market effects of regional trade agreements. He completed his graduate training in development economics at El Colegio de México and remains a research affiliate of its Centre for Economic Studies.

His research asks how trade liberalisation and a large informal sector interact to shape wage growth across middle-income economies — a question he pursues through the Institute's ongoing study of productivity convergence in Latin America. He presents regularly to regional trade bodies and supervises the data-quality checks behind the economics programme's public datasets.
